PennDOT has scheduled multiple road work projects across Berks County in the upcoming week, with a mix of long-term construction, lane closures, and maintenance operations expected to impact several major roadways.
In Berks County, long-term construction continues on Interstate 176 northbound and southbound near Mile Marker 4.6, where a shoulder closure remains in place 24/7. In addition, periodic daytime lane closures are scheduled in the same area between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. through early May. Motorists should expect delays and use caution when traveling through the work zone.
Nighttime concrete patching is scheduled on Interstate 176 between the Pennsylvania Turnpike and US 422, with lane closures in effect from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Drivers traveling overnight should be alert for changing traffic patterns.
On US 422, multiple daytime projects will impact traffic in both directions throughout the week. Line painting operations between the Berks/Lebanon County line, the Berks/Lancaster County line, and through the Stowe area will cause traffic disruptions from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Additional base repair work between PA 345 and PA 662, along with deck repair between Penn Avenue and Interstate 176, will result in lane closures during the same daytime hours. Motorists should expect delays and proceed with caution.
On Interstate 78, construction activity will bring overnight lane closures between Exit 23 and Exit 29, generally between 7:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Additional work includes median gate maintenance between Exit 23 and Exit 45 and a rolling roadblock with temporary traffic stoppages near Exit 35. Drivers should be prepared for delays and use caution, especially during overnight travel.
PennDOT advises motorists to allow extra travel time and remain alert while traveling through all active work zones across Berks County.
