Coroner releases cause of death for Central Berks officer Kristen Yeager

The Berks County Coroner’s Office has released additional information following the line-of-duty death of Central Berks Regional Police Officer Kristen Yeager, including the results of her autopsy.

According to Coroner Matthew Stitzel, Yeager, 42, was responding to assist a neighboring police department on the evening of May 29 when, for reasons that remain under investigation, the police cruiser she was operating left the roadway and struck a tree. She was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

Yeager suffered fatal injuries and was transported to Reading Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 8:42 p.m.

An autopsy was conducted June 1 by Dr. Neil Hoffman at Reading Hospital. The cause of death was determined to be multiple blunt force injuries, according to the coroner’s office.

The manner of death remains pending as investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The incident remains under joint investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police Reading Station and the Berks County Coroner’s Office.

Yeager was a two-and-a-half-year veteran of the Central Berks Regional Police Department. The department describes her as a dedicated officer who served the community with courage, compassion, and professionalism.

Authorities said no additional information is being released at this time.
