A Reading man has been arrested after videos circulating on social media allegedly showed him engaging in reckless driving near the Pagoda on Sunday evening.
According to the Reading Police Department, officers identified the driver as 37-year-old Jean Muniz-Hernandez shortly after the videos began appearing online on June 7.
Police said members of the department’s Traffic Enforcement Unit located Muniz-Hernandez on the morning of June 8 and took him into custody following a brief foot pursuit. Officers also discovered that he had several outstanding warrants.
Authorities said appropriate charges will be filed in connection with the incident.
Videos circulating on social media reportedly showed a driver performing donuts near the exit intersection of the Pagoda parking lot. The footage prompted an investigation by the Reading Police Department, which later identified the driver as Muniz-Hernandez.
In a statement, the Reading Police Department emphasized that reckless driving poses a danger to motorists, pedestrians, and the public.
“Reckless driving endangers everyone on our roadways and will not be tolerated,” the department said.
Police also noted that while residents and visitors are encouraged to enjoy community events, parks, landmarks, and public spaces throughout the city, dangerous driving and other behavior that places others at risk will not be accepted.
“Our goal is to ensure that everyone can enjoy these events safely while protecting the quality of life of those who live, work, and visit Reading,” the department said.
No additional details regarding the charges were immediately released.
