Douglass Township awarded $300,000 grant for public works vehicle

Douglass Township will receive $300,000 in state funding to purchase a new vehicle for its public works department as part of more than $1.2 million in public safety grants announced by state Sen. Tracy Pennycuick.

Pennycuick said the grants, totaling $1,275,000 across the 24th Senatorial District, were recently approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and will support a variety of public safety initiatives, including law enforcement, emergency medical services, fire companies and municipal operations.

“Keeping our communities safe is among my top priorities as a legislator. Our police, fire, EMS and municipal partners play essential roles in promoting public safety in times of need,” Pennycuick said. “I’m proud to support emergency response efforts throughout the 24th District by helping ensure they have the resources they need to act swiftly and effectively.”

The Berks County allocation will provide Douglass Township with funding to replace or upgrade a vehicle used by the township’s public works department. The township was the only Berks County recipient included in the latest round of grants.

Other grants announced by Pennycuick will support police vehicle purchases, emergency generators, fire station improvements, rescue equipment, ambulance refurbishments and victim services programs throughout Montgomery County and neighboring communities within the 24th District.

The Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development said its mission is to encourage shared prosperity across the commonwealth through support for sustainable development and community improvement initiatives.

The grants were approved through the department and are intended to help local agencies and municipalities maintain and enhance services that support public safety and emergency response efforts.
