A 19-year-old Reading man has been charged following an investigation by the Berks County Detectives into the possession of child sexual abuse material, according to the Berks County District Attorney’s Office.
Authorities identified the defendant as Jhosua Melenciano Vasquez, of the 100 block of West Greenwich Street in Reading.
According to investigators, the case began in November 2024 after the Berks County Detectives received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children involving suspected child sexual abuse material being uploaded to and stored in a Dropbox account.
Detectives traced the activity to an internet protocol (IP) address associated with a residence in the 100 block of West Greenwich Street. Additional subpoenas were obtained during the investigation, which authorities said linked Vasquez to the online accounts.
On Dec. 5, 2025, members of the Berks County Detectives executed a search warrant at the residence. During the investigation, Vasquez allegedly admitted to possessing child sexual abuse material on his cellular phone. The phone and other digital devices were seized as evidence.
A forensic examination conducted by the Berks County Forensic Services Unit reportedly found numerous digital images and videos of child sexual abuse material on the cellular phone.
On June 22, 2026, Vasquez was charged with one count of child sexual abuse material, a second-degree felony, and one count of criminal use of a communication facility, a third-degree felony. An arrest warrant was issued by Magisterial District Judge Alvin B. Robinson.
According to the district attorney’s office, Vasquez surrendered to Berks County Detectives on June 23 and was transported to the Central Processing Center at the Berks County Courthouse, where he was awaiting arraignment.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Berks County Detectives at 610-478-7171 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Alert Berks County.
As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
