Suspect in fatal Lancaster Avenue shooting arrested in New York, Reading police say

A suspect has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting and home invasion that left one man dead and another seriously injured in Reading early Friday morning, according to the Reading Police Department.

Police said officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Lancaster Avenue at approximately 2 a.m. on July 10 for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found two adult men suffering from gunshot wounds.

The victims were identified as a 57-year-old Reading man and Alex Rosado-Laboy, 45, of Reading.

According to investigators, Amaury Rosado-Laboy, 43, allegedly forced his way into the residence and shot both victims. Police said the 57-year-old man sustained serious injuries, while Alex Rosado-Laboy died from his injuries.

Investigators allege that after the shooting, Amaury Rosado-Laboy fled the scene and later stole a vehicle before leaving Pennsylvania.

On July 11, the Woodbury Police Department in Orange County, New York, took Amaury Rosado-Laboy into custody. He is currently awaiting extradition to Berks County.

Police said he is expected to be arraigned on the following charges: First-degree murder, second-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and additional related charges.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Police noted that criminal charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
