The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Berks County and surrounding areas as dangerously hot and humid conditions are expected on Wednesday.
The advisory will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and includes Berks, Lehigh, Northampton, Eastern Chester, Upper Bucks, Western Chester, and Western Montgomery counties.
Forecasters say heat index values, what the temperature feels like when humidity is factored in, could climb as high as 104 degrees during the afternoon.
The combination of high temperatures and humidity can increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for older adults, young children, people who work outdoors, and those without access to air conditioning.
The National Weather Service recommends taking the following precautions during the advisory:
- Drink plenty of fluids.
- Stay in an air-conditioned room whenever possible.
- Limit time outdoors and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
- Check on relatives, neighbors, and others who may be vulnerable to the heat.
Residents are also encouraged to monitor the latest forecasts and any additional weather alerts, as conditions may change.
