One person killed in early Sunday morning shooting in Reading

One person was killed in a shooting early Sunday morning in Reading, according to the Reading Police Department.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the 1400 block of North 5th Street at approximately 3:39 a.m. Sunday after Berks County 911 received a report of a shooting. Initial emergency dispatch information indicated a male had been shot after a vehicle drove by the area.

The Berks County Coroner’s Office said a deputy coroner was requested to respond to the scene at 8:02 a.m. The victim, a 32-year-old man, was pronounced dead at 8:37 a.m.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 3, at Reading Hospital.

The coroner’s office said the victim has been positively identified, but his identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin and to allow the family time to grieve.

The Berks County Coroner’s Office and the Reading Police Department are conducting a joint investigation into the shooting.

Authorities said the investigation remains active and ongoing, and no additional information is being released at this time. They said additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
