Kutztown University completed its renovation and celebrated with a ribbon cutting and grand opening of one of its residence halls, Johnson Hall, Thursday, Aug. 6.
First built in 1966, Johnson Hall features 68,613 square feet of fully renovated and new space to house 298 students. Students will enter through new vestibule-style main entrances, which open into the new exterior Golden Bear courtyard.
Renovations include a new fully ADA compliant elevator, the addition of central air conditioning and fully renovated restrooms on each resident floor. New lounge and study spaces have been added to each resident floor, as well as laundry facilities. The ground floor includes an updated student recreation center and kitchenette, a new conference room, imagination center and well-being suite.
Johnson Hall is named after Lillian Elizabeth Johnson, an 1889 graduate of Keystone State Normal School. She was the first critic teacher in the Model School and later became the dean of women.
