A portion of Route 419 in Tulpehocken Township will close beginning Monday, Aug. 10, as crews replace a nearly century-old bridge over Mill Creek.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said Route 419 will be closed and detoured between Summer Mountain Road and Parkside Inn Road while the project is underway.
The posted detour will use Summer Mountain Road, Route 183, North Heidelberg Road and Christmas Village Road.
The project includes removing and replacing the two-lane, single-span concrete arch culvert that carries Route 419 over Mill Creek. Crews will also reconstruct the approach pavement and complete other related work.
According to PennDOT, the existing structure was built in 1926 and measures 11 feet long and 31 feet wide. The replacement will also be 11 feet long but will be widened to 34 feet.
The section of Route 419 carries an average of 4,061 vehicles per day.
Lobar Site Development Corporation of Dillsburg is the general contractor for the $873,723 project.
PennDOT anticipates the project will be completed in October 2026.
