Nearly 100 racers from 17 states are expected to compete in Reading during the annual Duryea Hillclimb, scheduled for Aug. 17 and 18.
The event, which was first held in 1951, is part of the Pennsylvania Hillclimb Association Championship Series. The competition is sanctioned by the Sports Car Club of America and hosted by the Blue Mountain Region SCCA.
Drivers will compete along a 2.2-mile course beginning at the bottom of Duryea Drive near the intersection with 13th Street Extension. The course climbs Mount Penn before finishing along Skyline Drive at the William Penn Memorial Fire Tower.
Among the competitors returning this year is Ron Moreck of Kingston, last year’s overall winner. Moreck also set a new course record during the 2025 event and will return to defend his title.
Organizers said several previous winners are also expected to compete, along with drivers from southern states making their first appearance at Duryea.
Competition is scheduled to begin around 9:15 a.m. Saturday and continue until approximately 4:30 p.m. Racing will resume around 9 a.m. Sunday and conclude at approximately 4 p.m.
Admission to the Duryea Hillclimb is by voluntary donation, with proceeds benefiting Pagoda-Skyline Inc.
A shuttle bus will operate both days, transporting spectators to the Fire Tower and various viewing areas along the course. Shuttle ridership is also by voluntary donation, with proceeds benefiting the Third and Spruce Reading Recreation Center.
