Route 143 to close overnight for two weeks as part of I-78 bridge replacement project in Lenhartsville

Motorists traveling through Lenhartsville should prepare for overnight closures of Route 143 beginning Monday, October 12, as construction continues on the Interstate 78 Lenhartsville Bridge Replacement Project.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and Bridging Pennsylvania Constructors (BPC) announced that Route 143 will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Friday nights, for approximately two weeks, weather permitting.

The closures will allow construction crews to complete the installation of bridge beams as part of the ongoing replacement project.

During the closures, motorists will be directed to follow posted detours using I-78 and nearby interchanges.

The following detours will be in place:

  • Route 143 Northbound: Take I-78 east to Exit 40 (Krumsville), then follow I-78 west to Exit 35 (Lenhartsville) to return to Route 143 northbound.
  • Route 143 Southbound: Take I-78 west to Exit 30 (Hamburg), then follow I-78 east to Exit 35 (Lenhartsville) to return to Route 143 southbound.
  • I-78 Eastbound to Route 143 Northbound: Continue east on I-78 to Exit 40 (Krumsville), then travel west to Exit 35 (Lenhartsville) and take Route 143 north.
  • I-78 Westbound to Route 143 Southbound: Continue west on I-78 to Exit 30 (Hamburg), then travel east to Exit 35 (Lenhartsville) and take Route 143 south.

PennDOT is advising motorists to watch for changing traffic patterns, follow posted detour signs and use caution when traveling through the construction area.

The bridge replacement is part of PennDOT’s Major Bridges Public-Private Partnership (P3) Program, which focuses on replacing major bridges across Pennsylvania.

The Lenhartsville project is being carried out by Bridging Pennsylvania Constructors, a joint venture involving S&B USA Construction and FCC Construction, with additional subcontractors and engineering firms supporting the work.

The overnight closures are expected to continue for approximately two weeks, depending on weather conditions and construction progress.
