Abilities in Motion highlights Disability, Diversity and Inclusion in annual ADA Celebration Art Show

Abilities in Motion is hosting its annual ADA Celebration Art Show this week celebrating the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act by showcasing artists with disabilities.

Abilities in Motion has partnered with the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts to present an art show exhibition in Studio 240 from July 26 through July 31.

The theme this year is Disability, Diversity and Inclusion. The artists’ stories and biographies accompanying the art bring this exhibit to life and allow viewers to connect with the artists’ work on a personal level.

“We are pleased to partner again with the GoggleWorks for this year’s celebration of the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The COVID-19 pandemic created extremely challenging times, so it is even more important to showcase stories of people with disabilities in their own expression of art” said Stephanie Quigley, Abilities in Motion Executive Director.

“We are happy to bring awareness to their creative talent and abilities. Our hope is that this exhibition not only provides an opportunity for the community to gain a better understanding of disability but also the importance of the ADA is to people with disabilities.”

The exhibition honors the 31st anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, which falls on July 26th and established civil rights for people with disabilities and allowed for a more inclusive, accessible society.

Abilities in Motion conceptualized the annual art show five years ago to recognize the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 by highlighting the culturally diverse artistic talent within our local community. This is the second year partnering with the GoggleWorks to showcase the artwork in a professional gallery setting.

Artists with disabilities will exhibit their creations through a variety of media, including painting, drawing, photography and sculpture.

The exhibition will launch from 10am – 12pm on Monday July 26, 2021, with a drop-in meet and greet and will run through Friday, July 31.
