All aboard! The Reading Society of Model Engineers are back for another season.
One of the few times the club is open to the public, RSME held their Spring Open House event this past weekend for rail fans and families alike.
Sitting on 25 acres of land, RSME is tucked away in the woods off Pricetown Road in Alsace Township.
The Spring Open House featured rides on the 15″ gauge Laurel Run Railroad, and the dual gauge, 7.25″ and 4.75″ gauge live steam railroad. Normally, gusts also have the opportunity to visit the large model train displays in the clubhouse. However, the display was closed for the Spring Open House.
While visiting this hidden gem, guests start their adventure at the Laurel Run Station, where they can purchase tickets, browse a small collection of historic rail items and wait for the 15″ gauge train. Once boarded, passengers travel around the loop track which eventually ends at the clubhouse.
The fun isn’t over, just above the clubhouse sits the dual gauge, 7.25″ and 4.75″ gauge live steam railroad. Here, guests can ride specialized steam engines owned by members. This short loop track layout features a quick ride through the forest, a tunnel, and is more than enough fun for kids and adults.
The next opportunity to ride the rails is June 20th for Father’s Day, September 12th, October 3rd, Fall Open House: October 16/17, and Frosty Run: November 27/28. Hours noon to 5pm.
