Comcast brings fiber-rich network to thousands more homes and businesses in Berks County

Adding to its investment in Berks County, Comcast has announced it is expanding its smart, fast and reliable fiber-rich network to more than 5,000 additional residents and dozens of businesses in Amity Township.

Additionally, Comcast has started providing its full suite of services, including Xfinity residential broadband speeds up to 1.2 gigabits per second and Comcast Business speeds up to 100 Gbps, to its first new customers in Exeter Township, following the announcement of this expansion in May 2022 to more than 8,300 additional residents and businesses.

Comcast is scheduled to complete the projects in Exeter and St. Lawrence Townships in 2023 and in Amity Township in early 2024. With these combined expansion projects, Comcast will be connecting 13,300 additional homes and businesses in Berks County.

“Amity Township is looking forward to welcoming Comcast to town to offer our residents and businesses more choice. We have fielded requests for Xfinity services by Amity residents for years and it is our hope that bringing Comcast to the community will positively benefit those who live and work here,” said Kim McGrath, Chairperson, Amity Township.

“We are proud to further our investment in Berks County,” said Dan Bonelli, Senior Vice President of Comcast’s Freedom Region, which is based in Pennsylvania. “Through our network expansion work in Amity, Exeter and St. Lawrence Townships, we’re able to bring our reliable network to more homes and businesses and provide them with fast, reliable and secure Internet that keeps them connected.”

Exeter and St. Lawrence Township residents and businesses can visit Xfinity.com, call 1-800-XFINITY or visit our Xfinity Store at 2777 Papermill Road, Suite 2 in Wyomissing to see if they are eligible for service.

Residential customers in these areas will be able to take advantage of Xfinity’s full suite of Internet products, including supersonic WiFi technology from powerful gateways, xFi Advanced Security, Xfinity Mobile and the ultimate entertainment with Flex, a free 4K platform for Internet-only customers that seamlessly delivers streaming content.

Residents who are currently served by Comcast can learn more about the federal government’s Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), which provides eligible households with up to $30/month toward their Internet and/or mobile service ($75/month on Tribal lands). The credit can be applied to any tier of Xfinity Internet service, including Internet Essentials, along with mobile service through Xfinity Mobile.

For local businesses, Comcast Business offers a suite of connectivity, communications, networking, cybersecurity, wireless and managed solutions to help organizations of different sizes prepare for what’s next. Comcast Business has been consistently recognized by industry analysts and associations as a leader and innovator, and one of the fastest growing providers of Ethernet services.

Comcast’s expansion to Amity, Exeter and St. Lawrence Townships is the company’s latest investment in central and eastern Pennsylvania.

In Luzerne County, the company is continuing work on its network expansion in the city of Wilkes-Barre, where it is already serving new customers, while already having completed expansions in Kingston, Pringle, Larksville and Courtdale. Comcast also recently completed network expansions to parts of Lancaster, Columbia, Northumberland and Montour counties as well as in Eagles Mere and Laporte in Sullivan County, where it is also currently working on an additional expansion south of those locations. Comcast is also expanding in Honey Brook Borough and Elverson.

Comcast has installed 19 Lift Zones in Berks County, providing free WiFi service to help these community centers promote digital learning. Lift Zones are part of Project UP, Comcast’s comprehensive, 10-year, $1 billion commitment to help build a future of unlimited possibilities and the continuation of the company’s long history of giving back to communities where it provides service and where its employees live and work.
