Berks County shoppers lined up bright and early Wednesday morning, ready to enter the new Lidl food market in Sinking Spring.

Opening with a ribbon cutting just before 8am, the General Manager presented the first customer in line, Lindsay Bates of Sinking Spring, with a $100 gift card to the store. The first 100 customers in line also received a custom tote bag and a chance to win a $500 gift card.

The company was founded in 1973, with the first modern Lidl store opening in Ludwigshafen, Germany. The first store employed three people and carried 500 products.
