The City of Reading Public Works Department’s Sustainability Division is offering a mini grant for community gardens run by non-profit organizations and educational institutions in the City of Reading for the use and benefit of city residents.
The Sustainability Division will acquire two types of composting bins and distribute them on a first come, first served basis to chosen community gardens. The purpose of the bins is to help reduce landfilled waste, support the gardens in producing compost for soil amendment and fertilization, and to promote composting in the community.
Eligible gardens must be run by a 501(c)(3) organization, an educational institution, or a nonprofit garden for the benefit of the community.
At this moment, private or house gardens are ineligible. Each garden is limited to one Earth Easy worm composting bin (a wait list will be available if not all bins are allocated) and two Geo Bin composting bins (a wait list will also be provided for additional bins) to serve as many gardeners as possible. All bins will stay in place.
