Bicyclist found dead Thursday evening on 222 in Maidencreek Township

Update: Lancaster County man charged in fatal hit-and-run bicycle accident on Route 222

Original post: The Northern Berks Regional Police Department is investigating after a bicyclist was found dead Thursday, September 20th, on the side of Route 222 in Maidencreek Township.

According to police, officers were initially dispatched to the area near near Richmaiden Road around 8:15 PM for a bicyclist that had been struck by a motor vehicle. Arriving on-scene, they located the caller and a deceased male with his damaged bicycle.

The caller, a family member of the victim, located the victim who was overdue in returning home.

The victim has been identified by authorities as 23-year-old Anson Burkholder of Maidencreek Township.

Route 222 was temporarily closed between Route 73 and Route 662 while the accident was investigated by NBRPD and the PA State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit.

Additional details were not available, but police say they expect to release additional information as the investigation continues.
