Two arrested in connection to Reading double shooting

The Reading Police Department announced Friday afternoon that a 17-year-old and 44-year-old have been charged in connection to Sunday night’s double shooting that took place at North 13th and Green Streets. The incident on June 11th left a 15-year-old and 22-year-old hospitalized with seriously injuries.

Following an investigation, police say two suspects were identified with warrants issued for attempted homicide.

On Thursday, June 15th at approximately 8:30pm, the Reading Police Department, with assistance from the Berks County Emergency Response Team, took 17-year-old Henry Mendoza into custody at a residence in the 1000 block of Greenwich Street. Mendoza is being charged as an adult and is being arraigned on attempted homicide and related charges.

The other individual charged in the shooting, identified as 44-year-old Bonef Tarick Hassell, was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals Task Force, and is being arraigned on attempted homicide and related charges.

“I want to thank the members of the Reading Police Department for their hard work relative this investigation that resulted in two violent offenders being taken into custody quickly” said Reading Police Chief Richard Tornielli in a statement.

“I also want to thank our partners in law enforcement, specifically the Berks County Emergency Response Team and the U.S. Marshals Service Task Force for their assistance in removing these individuals from our streets.”
