The Berks County Transition Coordinating Council (BCTCC), in collaboration with the Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU), is set to host the 2025 Secondary Transition Expo on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the BCIU Main Office Building, located at 1111 Commons Boulevard in Reading.
The free event, running from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., is designed to help students with disabilities and their families navigate the often-complex transition from school to adulthood. More than 40 local agencies, organizations, and resources will be present to offer guidance on education, employment, and independent living. No registration is required, and Spanish interpreters will be available to assist families.
Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in several informative breakout sessions throughout the event. A session on wills and trusts will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., followed by a financial planning session from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Waiver funding will be discussed from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., while a separate session on post-secondary education will run from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Adding a culinary element to the expo, Chef Tim Twiford from Redner’s Markets will team up with students from the John Paul II Center for Special Learning to prepare a selection of hot and cold menu items available for purchase. All proceeds from food sales will go toward the BCTCC Scholarship & Financial Award Fund.
The expo provides a valuable opportunity for students, families, and community members to gather important information, connect with essential resources, and support a meaningful cause. For more information, contact Colleen Rios, Educational Consultant, at 610-987-8557.
