A 22-year-old Reading man who died after his motorcycle collided with an SUV during a police pursuit has been identified by the Berks County Coroner’s Office.
Luis Antonio Cruz Hernandez, 22, was operating a 1991 Kawasaki motorcycle Monday night, Aug. 10, when Reading police attempted to stop him for a traffic violation and excessive speed, according to information released by the coroner’s office.
During the pursuit, Cruz Hernandez traveled to the intersection of North Ninth and Green streets, where his motorcycle collided with a 2017 Acura SUV.
Reading Fire Department EMS transported Cruz Hernandez to Reading Hospital. The Berks County Coroner’s Office was notified of his death at approximately 10:46 p.m., and he was pronounced dead in the hospital’s emergency department at 10:41 p.m.
An autopsy was conducted Wednesday, Aug. 12, at Reading Hospital. The coroner’s office determined the cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries and ruled the manner of death accidental.
Reading police initially confirmed that the crash involved a motorcycle and another vehicle and said the investigation was ongoing.
The Berks County Coroner’s Office and Reading Police Department have been investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
