23-year-old motorcyclist dies after crash in Reading

A 23-year-old man died Monday night after a motorcycle and SUV collided at North Ninth and Green streets in Reading, according to Reading police and the Berks County Coroner’s Office.

Reading police said the crash involved one motorcycle and one automobile. The motorcycle operator was transported by Reading Fire Department EMS to Reading Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The Berks County Coroner’s Office said it was notified by a trauma physician at Reading Hospital’s emergency department at approximately 10:46 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10. The man was pronounced dead at 10:41 p.m.

According to preliminary information released by the coroner’s office, the motorcycle collided with the passenger side of a full-size SUV.

The crash occurred following a police pursuit through the city involving several officers. Police have not released information about why the motorcyclist was being pursued or the circumstances surrounding the pursuit.

The man has been positively identified and his next of kin has been notified, according to the coroner’s office. His identity is being withheld at this time to allow family members an opportunity to grieve.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 12, at Reading Hospital.

The Berks County Coroner’s Office and Reading Police Department are conducting a joint investigation into the death. Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
