The Berks County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post #027 is calling on aspiring young adults interested in a law enforcement career to apply for its 2024 program. The application window is open until December 31, 2023.
Initiated by Sheriff Eric J. Weaknecht in 2012, the Explorer Post provides a unique opportunity for individuals aged 14 to 20 to gain firsthand insights into the world of law enforcement. The program goes beyond theoretical learning, offering hands-on training and experiences. Explorers will receive an inside look at various law enforcement agencies, including local Police Departments, the US Marshal’s Office, Pennsylvania State Police, Berks County District Attorney’s Office, Berks County Jail System, and State and County Parole and Juvenile Probation Office.
In addition to their training, Explorers will actively participate in the Berks County Sheriff’s Office’s community outreach programs. They will also represent the office at external events, playing a vital role in fostering positive relationships between the community and law enforcement.
The Explorer Post #027 holds a special significance as it was named in honor of Deputy Sheriff Kyle Pagerly, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty on June 29, 2011, while serving a felony warrant in Northern Berks County. Deputy Pagerly was enrolled to help with the Post’s startup prior to his death.
