Berks County South Campus closed for water system remediation

Operations continue remotely following Legionella detection.

The County of Berks has temporarily closed its South Campus facility in Mohnton to allow contractors full access to address water system issues following the recent detection of Legionella bacteria.

Located at 400 East Wyomissing Avenue, the South Campus will remain closed to the public until further notice while remediation work is conducted. According to county officials, operations will continue for all departments housed in the facility, with approximately 95 staff members working remotely or from alternate locations during the closure.

County officials are asking residents who need in-person services from affected departments to reach out directly to make alternative arrangements. The departments impacted include the Area Agency on Aging, Assessment, Mapping, the Workforce Development Board, the Planning Commission, the Industrial Development Authority, the Berks County Redevelopment Authority, Community & Economic Development, Book Bonanza, County Archives, and the office of Magisterial District Judge David Yoch.

The closure follows preliminary water test results earlier this week that indicated the presence of Legionella, prompting a series of precautionary steps by the county to protect staff and the public.

Further updates will be provided as remediation progresses.
