Boyertown State Theatre celebrates completion of extensive seating renovation project

More than 1,000 volunteer hours were poured into a labor of love that will benefit the local community for years to come.

The Boyertown State Theatre has successfully completed an extensive seating renovation project, marking a significant milestone in the enhancement of the 111-year-old venue. This transformative endeavor, which spanned over the last year and 7 months, involved a total of 1000 volunteer hours dedicated to upgrading every seat in the facility.

The comprehensive renovation not only rejuvenated the comfort and aesthetics of our seating but also introduced a delightful addition – cup holders for each seat. This exciting feature will provide patrons with an even more enjoyable and convenient experience when attending movies and events at the venue.

The renovation of the theatre’s 215 seats commenced with the systematic removal of each row of seats. This involved disassembling and separating the metal framework and cushions.

To restore them, the metal components underwent shot blasting and powder coating, while any worn-out parts were swapped for new ones as required. Fresh fabric-upholstered foam cushions replaced the old ones. Finally, the seats were meticulously reassembled and reinstalled, row by row.

In addition to the remarkable feat of updating every seat, the organization shared that all wooden components of the seating underwent a meticulous restoration process. Each wooden element was completely stripped, painstakingly sanded down to bare wood, and then lovingly refinished with a new stain. To ensure longevity and exquisite craftsmanship, three coats of polyurethane were applied, resulting in a stunning and durable finish.

“Our commitment to providing an exceptional experience for our community members and patrons has been at the heart of this project,” said Jake Zimmers, President. “We are immensely grateful to our dedicated volunteers, Ken and Shannon Shaw, whose tireless efforts made this renovation possible, as well as the support from Maguire Products, A.W. Mercer, and Shultz Upholstery. The addition of cup holders reflects our dedication to enhancing the overall comfort and satisfaction of our audience.”

The 1000 volunteer hours invested in this project showcased the tremendous support and passion within our community. It exemplified the spirit of collaboration and unity that the State Theatre, a cornerstone of cultural and artistic enrichment in Boyertown shows.

With the seating renovation now complete, the organization invites community members, patrons, and all lovers of the arts to join them in experiencing the enhanced comfort and aesthetics of the historic venue. Whether you’re attending a first run movie, birthday party, business seminar, theatrical performance, or any of the other exciting events, you can now enjoy your favorite beverages with ease, thanks to the new cup holders.

The Boyertown State Theatre extended its heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the project, from volunteers to donors and community partners.
