The Brandywine Heights Area School District has been honored with the 2025 PASBO School Operations Impact Award for its Feeding Futures: Grab & Go Summer Meal Program, which provided more than 22,000 meals to students in need.
The Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials (PASBO) presents this award annually to districts that demonstrate exceptional efforts in improving operations and directly supporting students. Brandywine Heights stood out for its commitment to addressing food insecurity and ensuring children had access to fresh, nutritious meals during the summer months.
“Making sure kids have the food they need isn’t just a summer initiative—it’s a responsibility. We know that food insecurity doesn’t take a summer break,” district officials stated. “We’re incredibly proud of what this program accomplished, and we hope it inspires other districts to find new ways to support their students.”
Superintendent Andrew Potteiger and members of the Feeding Futures team will formally accept the award at the PASBO 70th Annual Conference on March 12 at 8:00 a.m. at the Hershey Lodge & Convention Center.
The Feeding Futures program was developed in response to a rising demand for food assistance, as poverty rates in the district have more than doubled over the past decade. The initiative was funded by a $28,000 grant from the No Kid Hungry Campaign, making Brandywine Heights the only school district in Pennsylvania to receive this grant. The funding allowed the district to offer fresh, locally sourced foods and establish convenient meal pickup locations for families.
The district’s recognition highlights the importance of summer meal programs in combating food insecurity and ensuring students remain nourished even when school is not in session.
