Berks Stands Up names Celine Schrier as new Director

Berks Stands Up, a member-supported community activist group, announced that Reading resident Celine Schrier has been hired as a part time paid organizer. She replaces Jane Palmer, who founded the group in 2017.

“We have every confidence Celine will lead our group with grace, integrity and wisdom,” said retiring director Palmer. “She is smart, compassionate, warm and friendly, fully aligned with our values and political analysis, skilled in organizing and deeply invested in our community.”

Schrier has been active with Berks Stands Up for almost two years and has served as a member of the leadership team for a year, where she was instrumental in crafting the 2020 electoral program.

Her position is part time, noted Palmer, “so she’ll be reliant on our fantastic volunteer members to accomplish our shared goals.”

The group intends to raise the additional funds needed for a full-time position and to build up the power and capacity of our volunteer-led working groups.

While there may be changes in style and strategy under Schrier’s leadership, she will maintain a firm adherence to the group’s mission, to make sure our government works for all of us, not just the privileged few.
