Visions Federal Credit Union made a $7,500 donation to Centro Hispano Daniel and Mama Angie’s Casa de Amistad to assist in the organizations continued efforts to feed senior citizens in the community.

The check was presented during a ceremony Thursday afternoon at Centro Hispano, on Washington Street in Reading. The donation is part of the Visions Cares grant program and will be utilized to continue funding their Healthy Start Senior Food Program for the rest of the year.

“One of the big needs our seniors have is breakfast, to start the morning off right. A lot of our seniors may be on medication, so to have a nutritious start is very important” says Michael Toledo, CEO of Centro Hispano Daniel Torres.

“The grant we’re receiving from Visions will allow us to purchase breakfast meals for our seniors. Our seniors are our most vulnerable citizens, so we’re only so happy to partner with Visions.”

Since 1988, Casa de la Amistad has been a community center for adults over 60 years of age, offering services in group activities, health classes, computer classes, exercises and culturally-appropriate nutritional daily meals.

Centro Hispano is also the vendor in the city providing meals on wheels for seniors living in the city of Reading who are home-bound. Last year we served over one hundred thirty thousand meals to our seniors.

“Visions Federal Credit Union was happy to present the Centro Hispano with a check for $7,500 through our Visions Cares Program.” said Lizette Epps, Director of Impact and Engagement for Visions Federal Credit Union.

“The Centro Hispano is the central hub for our Latino population in the Greater Reading area and we are proud to help support the efforts that our community partner is making to ensure that the most vulnerable in our city are cared for.”
