City hosts ribbon-cutting ceremonies for River Road reopening and Lance Place Playground project completion

The City of Reading hosted two ribbon-cutting ceremonies Friday morning. The first was to celebrate the completion of the Lance Place Playground renovation project, and the second was the opening of the River Road extension.

The Lance Place Playground, while a small 60’x 90’ lot, serves a vital role in the community. The project entailed relocating play equipment from 6th and Amity, installing curbing and play surfaces, replacing asphalt with grass, revitalizing existing play equipment, and replacing existing fencing.

The River Road Extension Project is designed to improve access to the city for commercial vehicles by extending Lincoln Street from West Windsor to West Spring. The new roadway will provide truck traffic with a safer and more efficient route to and from Schuylkill Avenue /Route 183.
