Last Tuesday’s National Night Out was postponed due to severe weather. The Reading Police Department and the City of Reading have rescheduled the event to Wednesday, August 14, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The event will take place in the 400 and 500 blocks of Penn St., Reading.
The event is free and open to the public. Parking for the event is free at the 4th and Cherry garage, thanks to the Reading Parking Authority.
NNO will include a variety of fun activities including demonstrations by the Reading Police Department’s canine and traffic enforcement units; a display of law enforcement and safety vehicles including police vehicles and fire trucks; community resource tables providing city residents with information about programs and services dedicated towards helping their families.
Additionally, the Reading Recreation Commission, Reading Area Water Authority and Reading Fire Department will provide a special edition of the popular “Wacky Water Wednesday”!
Finally, there will be guest appearances by the Reading Fightin Phils “Screwball”! The Reading NNO event is being supported and attended by over 65 community organizations and local businesses.
NNO is a nationwide community crime and drug prevention event now in its 41st year. NNO, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), is an event involving people from more than 16,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases around the world. In all, over 37 million people participate. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community.
