10 drivers arrested for DUI at checkpoint Saturday in Wyomissing

On Saturday night, March 16th, 2024, Berks County Police Departments from the North Central Regional DUI Enforcement Program conducted a sobriety checkpoint in the 1400 block of Penn Avenue in the Borough of Wyomissing. 

Officers from the Wyomissing Police Department and the Pennsylvania State Police were assisted by Officers from the West Reading, Exeter, Muhlenberg, Shillington, Cumru, South Heidelberg and Hamburg Police Departments.

A total of 419 vehicles were stopped at the Checkpoint between the hours of 10:30 P.M. and 1:30 A.M. According to police, 10 drivers were arrested for DUI, 9 impaired by alcohol and 1 was impaired by a combination of alcohol and other drugs.

Additionally, one person was arrested for possession of drugs. A driver stopped outside the checkpoint was found to be wanted and in possession of a stolen firearm. 

11 traffic citations and 15 warnings were issued at the checkpoint for various vehicle code violations.

DUI deterrence operations are funded through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the National Traffic Safety Administration. Travelers are reminded if they suspect a drunk driver to call 911. To report Underage Drinking call l-888-Under-21.
