The Reading Police Department is investigating three separate shootings that took place over the weekend which in total have left two people dead and two others injured.
The first shooting took place in the 1200 block of Greenwich Street Saturday, May 6 around 6:15pm. Upon arrival, officers found a 16-year-old deceased male on the sidewalk with a single gunshot wound.
According to investigators, the victim arrived in the block with three other males and was walking on Greenwich Street towards a corner store. As of yet, an unknown shooter fired shots in their direction, striking the victim. Police say the three other males have been identified. No other injuries were reported.
The second shooting happened in the Oakbrook section of Reading Sunday around 8:30pm in the 1000 block of Patton Ave. As officers were responding, a 18-year-old male was taken by personal vehicle to Reading Hospital before their arrival, where he was pronounced deceased.
According to police, officers also located another male with a single gunshot wound, who was also transported to the hospital for treatment. The condition of the male was not released.
The third shooting occurred in the area of South 6th and Spruce Streets around 12:04am Monday. In that incident, Reading police patrol officers were detailed to the area for the report of shots fired. At the intersection of South 6th and Spruce, they located a 27-year-old male with two non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, sustained to the left arm and leg.
The male was taken to Reading Hospital for treatment of his injuries. At this time, investigators say he is uncooperative with his account of what took place and could not provide a description of the suspected shooters. However, police say witnesses described that the victim had been arguing with two unknown males earlier in the evening. Those two remain unidentified.
Police said Monday afternoon that the investigation into all three shootings is ongoing and that at this time, there is no ongoing threat to public safety. Information on any potential suspects in all three cases was not available.
