An attempted burglary in Bethel Township early Wednesday morning led to a shooting, a seizure of drugs, and six individuals facing multiple charges, including drug offenses and violent crimes.
On August 28, 2024, at approximately 1:20am, Officers from Bethel Township Police Department were dispatched to a residence located on Legion Drive in Bethel Township, Berks County for a reported burglary in progress.
While enroute responding officers were advised there was a male gunshot victim located at the Sheetz located on Lancaster Ave. Troopers from PSP Hamburg responded to assist with the incident. Upon request of the Bethel Township Police Department the Pennsylvania State Police assumed control of the investigation.
The subsequent investigation revealed a male who resides at the home on Legion Drive encounterd two masked intruders, armed with handguns inside the residence. At that time he fired at the intruders with a rifle, striking one. The intruders then fled the house and later arrived in a vehicle at the Sheetz.
The suspect was transported to an area hospital where he remains in critical condition. Upon the execution of several search warrants State Police discovered approximately eight hundred fifty grams of cocaine, numerous items of narcotics paraphernalia, several firearms to include a shotgun with an obliterated SN# and ammunition inside the residence.
Additional firearms were located in the area of Sheetz. The weapons and drugs were seized.
As a result of the investigation, six individuals have been charged: Gurlal Singh, 29, of Bethel Township, and Ramanpreet Singh, 24, also of Bethel Township, face charges of Possession with Intent to Deliver.
Amarbir Singh, 24, of Richmond, California; Amandeep Kaur, 38, of Bakersfield, California; Harshpreet Singh, 23, also of Bakersfield, California; and Kuljinder Singh, 33, of Bethel Township, have been charged with Burglary, Conspiracy to Commit Burglary, Aggravated Assault, Terroristic Threats, and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing. The Pennsylvania State Police are continuing to piece together the full scope of the events and any further connections between the accused individuals.
