The Berks County District Attorney’s Office announced a new development Friday in the ongoing “Operation Trapped” investigation, a large-scale drug bust that has already led to the arrests of three suspects and the seizure of over $1.2 million worth of drugs. Authorities have now arrested a fourth individual connected to the drug trafficking operation.
Fidel Yamil Ruiz, 39, of Temple, PA, was apprehended at his residence on 12th Avenue early Friday morning. Ruiz faces multiple charges, including possession with the intent to deliver methamphetamine and fentanyl, delivery of methamphetamine and fentanyl, possession of methamphetamine and fentanyl, dealing in unlawful proceeds, and criminal conspiracy. The arrest warrant was issued by Magisterial District Judge Tonya Butler.
This arrest comes as a result of continued efforts by the Berks County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force to dismantle a major drug distribution network in the region. Earlier phases of the investigation led to the arrests of Selwyn Alcala-Garcia, Rashan Brinkley, and Marcial Cooper in September. These individuals were charged with multiple drug-related offenses, including possession with the intent to deliver methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine.
Ruiz was transported to the Berks County Central Processing Center for arraignment following his capture.
