The Kutztown Police Department has issued a public warning after discovering a skimming device on a Santander ATM located inside the CVS store at 45 Constitution Blvd. The device, found on December 1, 2024, at approximately 2:45 PM, was identified after a customer reported issues with their card not being read properly.
Upon investigation, police determined that the device included a card reader designed to steal information, as well as a hidden camera affixed above the keypad to record PIN entries. Both the skimmer and the camera have been removed, secured, and logged as evidence.
Authorities are urging residents who used the ATM to monitor their bank accounts closely for any unauthorized transactions. If suspicious activity is detected, individuals are advised to contact their banks immediately.
Police also recommend the following precautions: Inspect ATMs Carefully: Check for unusual attachments or loose components before using an ATM. Protect Your PIN: Cover the keypad when entering your PIN to prevent it from being captured by hidden cameras. Stay Alert: Report any suspicious devices or irregularities at ATMs to authorities.
To report any concerns, residents can contact the Kutztown Police Department or their financial institutions. Police are continuing their investigation to determine how long the device was in place and whether additional ATMs in the area may have been affected.
