Police investigate two separate shootings, one fatal, in Reading

The Reading Police Department Criminal Investigations Division has released additional information Monday evening into two separate shootings that happened in the City over the weekend.

On November 6, 2021, at 4:05am, Reading Police were called to 400 block of North 12th Street for the report of a shooting. Police say their investigation determined that “some type of altercation” occurred at a house party that led to three people receiving non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to the legs.

According to investigators, James Wright, 28 years old of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, was found to have fired a gun into a group of people at the house party, and another unknown individual fired back. As a result, Wright, and another 25 year old male from Reading, and a 24 year old from Carlisle, Pennsylvania, received non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Charges were filed against Wright for Aggravated Assault and related charges. Police are asking for the public’s help identification other involved individuals.

On Sunday, November 7, 2021, at 12:17am, Police and EMS responded to the area of South 6th & Cherry Street for the report of shots fired and possible shooting victims.

Arriving on-scene, officers found 2 victims on the ground with gunshot wounds. Police say José Rodríguez-Bultron, 43 years old from Reading, received multiple gunshot wounds and succumbed to his injuries at Reading Hospital. The second victim received multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to Reading Hospital for treatment.

During the course of the investigation, Police determined that there was a fight that occurred inside the La Cabaña Lounge involving the group the victims were with and another group.

A male Police have identified as Alberto Rivera-Vázquez, 28 years old from Reading, was observed exiting the lounge via a rear door hiding behind parked vehicles and then fired at the victims and the group they were with. The victims were struck by gunfire, and Rivera-Vázquez fled the area on foot.

Rivera-Vázquez is charged with 1st-degree Murder, 3rd-degree Murder, and related charges. Rivera-Vázquez is not in custody at this time and is considered armed and dangerous.
