Police are searching for a man accused of robbery and domestic assault following an incident at a residence in the Flying Hills section of Cumru Township on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
According to a press release from the Cumru Township Police Department, officers were dispatched to a residence on the 00 block of Fairway Road at 10:39 p.m. after receiving reports of a loud physical domestic dispute in progress.
When officers arrived at 10:46 p.m., they reportedly observed a man, identified as Travelle Martin, assaulting a female through the front window of the home. Police entered the residence through the front door, but Martin fled out the rear door, taking the victim’s phone with him.
A search of the area, involving officers from Cumru Township and West Reading, as well as assistance from a police K-9 unit and a drone operated by the Western Berks Fire Department, was unsuccessful in locating Martin.
Police have since charged Martin with robbery, domestic assault, and related offenses. An active arrest warrant has been issued, and authorities continue to investigate his whereabouts.
Anyone with information about Travelle Martin or his location is urged to contact the Cumru Township Police Department at 610-777-9595. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Berks Crime Alert at 1-877-373-9913.
Update: Cumru Township Commissioner Greg Miller posted the following statement to social media Thursday afternoon:
“Many of you have likely seen the numerous social media posts regarding the alleged domestic incident that occurred on January 2nd on Fairway Drive in Flying Hills. As you read, the incident led to Travelle Martin fleeing the residence and now police are unable to locate him. As one of the Cumru Commissioners who is a police liaison for the Township, I want to assure everyone that I’ve been briefed on the incident and that our police are following all protocols to locate Mr. Martin to ensure he’s safe and ensure he receives the due process he deserves by right. Cumru Township police are working with the Berks County Sheriff’s department to ensure this happens. The police have searched the Flying Hills community and want to assure residents that the neighborhood is safe.”
“Understandably, there has been a strong reaction to the social media posts on this topic with a lot of thoughts and opinions being expressed. As is the case with all social media posts, some of the information being offered is credible, some is not. Unfortunately since this is an active police investigation details as to what is and isn’t accurate can not be provided, but I would ask everyone to consider what they’re reading and make their own determination as to what does and doesn’t make sense. I would offer that we have some of the best police in Berks County here in Cumru and want to thank them for their efforts in this case and for their daily service to our community.”
