The Reading Police Department Criminal Investigations Division announced Wednesday morning that they have made an arrest in a homicide investigation from August 2023.
On August 3, 2023 at approximately 11:30 pm officers responded to the area of the 000 block of South 10th Street for the report of shots fired and a female shot in the face. Officers arrived and found an adult female victim identified as 58-year-old Tina Grier with a gunshot wound to the face. Grier was transported to Reading Hospital for treatment for life threatening injuries.
On October 31, 2023 Grier died and the cause of death was determined to be the injuries caused by the gunshot wound.
Through the course of the investigation, police say that shots had been fired in the block and bullets entered the residence where Grier resided. Suspect information was developed leading to 32-year-old Jeremiah Santiago being identified as the shooter.
Charges were approved by the Berks County District Attorney’s Office against Santiago for 1st degree Murder, 3rd degree Murder, Aggravated Assault and firearms related charges.
On August 13, 2024, at approximately 03:00pm Santiago was taken into custody in the 900 block of Penn Street by members of the Investigations Division. Police say Santiago was in possession of a stolen handgun at the time he was taken into custody. Santiago is currently in Berks County Prison relative to these charges.
