The Reading Police Department is investigating after a recent incident of vandalism at a Northwest Reading Park. Authorities were alerted to the incident after social media posts spread throughout the community showing damage to the Baer Park basketball court by a vehicle.
The basketball court was renovated in June of 2023 at a cost of $180,000, split between the Lonnie Walker IV Foundation and the City of Reading, which included court flooring, backboards, player seating and more.
“I am deeply disappointed by the recent vandalism at Baer Park’s basketball courts. It’s disheartening to see a lack of respect for public spaces meant for everyone’s enjoyment. We are committed to maintaining our parks and are exploring options to enhance security, including the possibility of gating, or fencing the courts to prevent future incidents. The Reading Police Department is investigating” said Mayor Eddie Morán in a statement.
