A heavy police response to a report of armed individuals on Brossman Court was ultimately determined to be based on a fabricated story, according to the Bern Township Police Department.
Around noon on Thursday, March 20, police were dispatched to the 100 block of Brossman Court after receiving a call from a resident who claimed that individuals were trespassing on his property while carrying an AR-style pistol and a handgun.
Officers initially responded with urgency, given the serious nature of the complaint and a previously reported burglary on the same block earlier in the week. Authorities conducted an extensive search in the area and began investigating a possible connection between the two incidents.
However, as the investigation progressed, police said the evidence did not support the complainant’s claims. After reviewing all available information and finding no corroborating details, officers called off the search and focused their efforts on a more in-depth investigation.
The complainant was brought to the police station for questioning and ultimately admitted to fabricating the entire incident, police said.
“There is no threat to the public,” the department stated.
Bern Township Police emphasized that while they take all crime reports seriously, false reports can drain critical resources and cause unnecessary alarm within the community. The department said appropriate charges against the individual will be filed shortly.
Police also thanked the public for its patience and cooperation during the response and investigation.
