A months-long investigation into drug trafficking in Reading culminated in the arrest of a local man on January 24, according to a press release from the Berks County District Attorney’s Office.
Walter Carrera, 38, of the 1200 block of Windsor Street, was taken into custody following a search of his residence by the Berks County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force and the Pennsylvania State Police. Authorities allege Carrera was distributing methamphetamine and fentanyl in the area.
The investigation, which began in October 2024, included surveillance and undercover purchases that led detectives to obtain a search warrant for Carrera’s home. During the search, law enforcement officers seized approximately six grams of fentanyl, five grams of methamphetamine, cutting agents, packaging materials, and digital scales. The street value of the seized drugs is estimated at $1,000.
Carrera is facing multiple charges, including possession with the intent to deliver fentanyl and methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also arrested on outstanding warrants for failure to appear in court and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
After his arrest, Carrera was transported to the Berks County Sheriff’s Department Central Processing Center, where he is awaiting preliminary arraignment.
The District Attorney’s Office emphasized that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
