Traffic stop in Exeter Township leads to $200K methamphetamine seizure

A routine traffic stop by the Exeter Township Police on January 8, 2025, led to a major drug bust, resulting in the seizure of approximately eight pounds of crystal methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $200,000, announced the department on Thursday.

The incident occurred at around 12:52 PM at the intersection of Perkiomen Avenue and Fairlane Road when an officer stopped a Subaru Legacy for a vehicle code violation. During the stop, the officer conducted an investigation that led to a search of the vehicle. The search uncovered vacuum-sealed bags containing a significant quantity of methamphetamine.

The officer consulted with Berks County District Attorney’s Office who determined that the evidence warranted charges for Possession with Intent to Deliver (PWID), a felony offense. Based on the investigation, the operator was charged with drug trafficking-related offenses.

“This incident highlights the vigilance of our officers and the importance of proactive policing in keeping dangerous substances out of our community,” said Chief Matthew Harley “We will continue to work closely with our law enforcement partners to hold those who traffic illegal drugs accountable.”

The Exeter Township Police Department encourages anyone with information about drug-related activity to contact the department at 610-779-1490 or submit tips anonymously through Crime Alert Berks.
