Two found guilty in Brookline Park homicide; Sentencing set for December

In a significant update to the Brookline Park homicide case, two individuals were found guilty today on multiple charges, including third-degree murder, following a bench trial before Judge Thomas G. Parisi. Defendants Anthony Boria and Henry Madera, Jr. were each convicted of third-degree murder, aggravated assault on four counts, carrying firearms without a license, perjury, false swearing, and seven counts of recklessly endangering another person. Both men were acquitted of conspiracy charges.

The convictions stem from a tragic incident that took place on March 14, 2022, in Reading’s Brookline Park. A large group of teenagers, mainly current and former students from the Governor Mifflin School District, had gathered in the park to witness a planned fistfight. After the fight, a brief verbal confrontation occurred among some attendees, which escalated into gunfire. Three individuals began firing into the crowd, and four teenagers were struck. One of the victims, 18-year-old Amiere Bibbs, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators recovered 43 shell casings from the chaotic crime scene. Through a detailed investigation, authorities identified Boria, Madera, and Julian Evans as the three shooters involved. Each faced charges of third-degree murder, aggravated assault, and related offenses.

While Boria and Madera’s cases have concluded with their convictions, the case against the third suspect, Julian Evans, remains pending in the Court of Common Pleas.

Sentencing for Boria and Madera has been scheduled for December 17, 2024. The District Attorney’s office has indicated that further updates will be provided as the case against Evans progresses.
