The Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) proudly announces that Dr. Michelle Reichard-Huff, Director of the Office of Early Childhood and Student Services, has been selected as the recipient of the 2026 Pennsylvania Association of Intermediate Units (PAIU) Ambassador Award. Dr. Reichard-Huff was formally recognized during the PAIU Annual Conference held at the Hershey Lodge on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
The PAIU Ambassador Award is a statewide honor celebrating individuals who exemplify exceptional dedication to advancing the mission and impact of Pennsylvania’s Intermediate Units through advocacy, leadership, and service.
Dr. Reichard-Huff was chosen for her commitment to championing Intermediate Unit programs and services that support students, families, educators, and school communities across Berks County and the Commonwealth. In her role at the BCIU, she leads more than 500 staff members who deliver early childhood education, special education, alternative education, and comprehensive student services. Her leadership is distinguished by a hands-on, collaborative approach that ensures programs remain responsive to the evolving needs of those they serve.
A visible and passionate advocate for Intermediate Units, Dr. Reichard-Huff actively promotes IU programs through legislative engagement, community partnerships, and professional forums. She frequently facilitates opportunities for policymakers and community members to experience IU programs firsthand, demonstrating their meaningful impact and strengthening statewide understanding and support.
Her dedication to developing staff expertise, elevating the voice of educators, and fostering strong partnerships has created a lasting impact both locally and across Pennsylvania’s IU network. Through her work, she continues to build collaborative systems that enhance learning opportunities for individuals of all ages.
In presenting the award, Dr. Jill Hackman, Executive Director of the Berks County Intermediate Unit, shared, “Dr. Reichard-Huff does not simply advocate for Intermediate Units in name; she advances their mission through action. Her ability to elevate programs, amplify staff voice, and communicate the value of IUs to policymakers and the public makes her an influential and trusted ambassador for Intermediate Units across Pennsylvania.”
