During the school board meeting held on Monday, June 5, the Governor Mifflin School Board of Directors voted to appoint Dr. Mary Libby to the role of Assistant Superintendent. This role is currently held by Dr. Lisa Hess, who will take on the role of Superintendent beginning July 1. She will serve a four-year contract term from July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2027.
Dr. Libby holds a Bachelor of Social Work from Eastern Michigan University as well as a Master’s and Doctorate in Reading, Writing, and Literacy from the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Libby currently serves as a Principal within the School District of Philadelphia and has previously served as the Network Professional Learning Specialist, Turnaround Principal Fellow, and Reading and ESOL Specialist.
Alongside her experience within a K-12 school setting, Dr. Libby also has shared her talents with post-secondary and international audiences, through which she has established herself as a community-focused leader with a clear vision and high expectations for learning and growth. She has a strong breadth and depth of knowledge around strategic planning and continuous improvement, is committed to building leadership capacity, and has significant experience in the design and development of rigorous, deeply aligned curriculum to improve student outcomes.
