Members of the Wilson High School Interact Club were honored on May 9 for their efforts in organizing the annual Eggstravaganza, a large-scale Easter egg hunt designed specifically for special needs students throughout Berks County. The event, which welcomed participants ages 4 to 21, featured 5,000 plastic eggs filled with candy, along with prizes and snacks for attendees.
The event’s impact was formally recognized by Pennsylvania State Representative Johanny Cepeda-Freytiz (129th District), who presented a House of Representatives Citation to Interact Club Advisor Chris Daubert. Additionally, Certificates of Recognition were awarded to Interact Club Officers Lily Schneider (President), Briana Willwerth (Vice President), Katherine Gibbon (Secretary), and Emma Williams (Treasurer).
Representative Cepeda-Freytiz praised the club’s commitment to inclusivity, noting how the Eggstravaganza gives students with unique support needs the opportunity to enjoy a traditional Easter activity in a welcoming and accommodating environment.
“The Eggstravaganza is an incredible, inclusive, and uplifting event,” said Interact Club President Lily Schneider. “Three years ago, Interact Club members noticed the lack of inclusivity in local egg hunts. Thus, the Eggstravaganza started as an Easter egg hunt specifically for children with special needs. This tradition has continued thanks to our sponsor mentor, the West Reading-Wyomissing Rotary Club, the community, and especially our club advisor, Mr. Chris Daubert. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to provide and host this amazing event. Without the help of the other club members, Mr. Daubert, the Rotary Club, and the community, this would not be possible.”
The West Reading-Wyomissing Rotary Club, which sponsors the Interact Club, has played a key role in supporting the Eggstravaganza since its inception. Jill Meade, Director of Youth Programs for the Rotary Club, commended the students’ dedication to service.
“As Rotarians, it is rewarding to see the enthusiasm, energy, and creativity of the Interact Club,” Meade said. “It is a pleasure to work with such service-oriented young adults. We look forward to a continued partnership with these talented, altruistic students. The future of Rotary, along with the local and international services it provides, will depend on individuals like these who are willing to put ‘Service Above Self.’”
The Wilson High School Interact Club’s Eggstravaganza continues to grow each year, providing an inclusive and joyful experience for special needs students and their families across Berks County.
