As Albright College’s award-winning Domino Players Theatre Company enters its 100th season, audiences can expect a lineup that honors the past while embracing the present. The 2024-25 season will open with Tennessee Williams’ iconic The Glass Menagerie in September, followed by the original political satire Hooray for Fascism! in November.
The season opener, The Glass Menagerie, will run from Sept. 26 to Sept. 29 at the Center for the Arts’ Albright Theatre. Directed by Julia Matthews, Ph.D., associate professor of theatre, this timeless play is set in a small St. Louis apartment, where the Wingfield family struggles with the weight of unfulfilled dreams and societal pressures. The story’s central figure, Tom, narrates his family’s unraveling as his mother Amanda pushes him to secure a “gentleman caller” for his shy, reclusive sister Laura. The poignant drama, first performed in 1944, established Williams as one of America’s greatest playwrights.
Following The Glass Menagerie, the Domino Players will present Hooray for Fascism! from Nov. 1 to Nov. 4. This sketch comedy revue, written by the company and directed by Matt Fotis, Ph.D., associate professor of theatre, takes a satirical look at the 2024 presidential election. With its sharp wit and improvisational style, the play promises to offer a humorous respite from what is sure to be a heated political season. Fotis, who has written extensively on improvisation, aims to bring timely commentary to the stage while giving audiences a reason to laugh in the face of contentious politics.
As the Domino Players mark 100 years of theatrical excellence, these productions embody the company’s commitment to both classical works and innovative, original material.
