Boone Birthday Celebration to feature historian Robert Morgan

On Sunday, November 3, 2024, history enthusiasts and families alike are invited to the Daniel Boone Homestead to celebrate the 290th birthday of legendary American frontiersman Daniel Boone. The event will run from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and promises an exciting afternoon filled with history, fun, and special guest speaker Robert Morgan, Boone’s biographer and noted historian.

Morgan, who taught writing and literature for over five decades at Cornell University before retiring in 2022, is widely recognized for his critically acclaimed biography Boone: A Biography, published in 2007. The book became a national bestseller, winning the Kentucky Book Award and being named a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Award for Biography. His presentation, scheduled for 2:00 p.m., will highlight Boone’s fascinating life and legacy. Following his talk, Morgan will conduct a book signing at the Visitor Center, with a limited number of copies available for purchase.

In addition to Morgan’s presentation, visitors can take part in various colonial-themed activities, including games, crafts, and even birthday cake. Boone House tours will be available throughout the afternoon, offering a glimpse into the frontiersman’s childhood home, a 10-room stone structure nestled on 579 acres of scenic countryside. Guests are also welcome to explore other historic buildings, including the Blacksmith Shop, Homestead Barn, and Smokehouse.

Admission to the event is priced at $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $5 for youth ages 6-17. Children under 5 and Daniel Boone Homestead Associates members can attend for free. Visitors are advised that pets, except service animals, and smoking are not permitted on the premises.

The Daniel Boone Homestead is located between Reading and Pottstown, just one mile north of Rt. 422 near Baumstown. The Homestead is managed by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission and operated daily by the nonprofit Daniel Boone Homestead Associates.
