The beloved “Christmas on the Mountain” display at the Reading Hillside Playground has officially opened for the 2024 holiday season. Now in its 33rd year, the dazzling holiday wonderland began welcoming visitors on Friday, November 29th at 5:00 PM and will continue to spread holiday cheer daily through December 23rd. Hours are Sunday through Thursday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and Friday and Saturday from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
This free-to-enter and free-to-park event transforms the playground into a breathtaking holiday spectacle, featuring over 5 million LED lights and pixels, inflatables, and a mix of vintage and modern holiday decorations. For 2024, visitors can enjoy new attractions, including a life-size Santa Sleigh for family photo opportunities and a cutting-edge 4K immersive light show that promises to elevate the entertainment experience for all.
Visitors can also enjoy a special opportunity to meet Santa Claus himself. All children can visit with Santa at no cost, and for a $5.00 donation, families will receive a printed photo as well as the chance to take unlimited pictures with their own devices.
“Every year since 2015, we have found a way to make this place even more magical, all while maintaining it as a Free to Enter Display,” said Tim Profit of Savage 61 Chrysler Dodge Jeep and a 1999 Reading High School graduate.
The Reading High School Marine Corps JROTC remains deeply involved in the event’s success, providing critical manpower for setup and operations. Cadets and volunteers began their work as early as September, ensuring the display is ready to delight thousands of visitors throughout the season.
Local businesses continue to play a vital role in keeping “Christmas on the Mountain” a beloved community tradition. Savage Auto Group and Axcess Industries are the primary sponsors, funding the majority of the event’s costs and helping to make the display free for all who attend.
The display is located at 459 North 14th Street in Reading, PA. On-street parking is available but tends to fill up quickly during peak hours. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a longtime fan, “Christmas on the Mountain” is ready to deliver a magical experience for families and holiday enthusiasts across Berks County and beyond.
