KidsPeace Foster Care in Berks County will bring a holiday twist to the middle of summer this weekend with its annual “Jingle in July” 5K Run and One Mile Walk.
The event will be held rain or shine on Saturday, July 25, at the Gring’s Mill Recreation Area in Wyomissing. The 5K race is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m., followed immediately by the One Mile Walk.
While early registration has closed, participants can still register on-site beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday. The registration fee is $25 per person, and event T-shirts will be available while supplies last.
In addition to the races, the event will feature a costume contest, raffles, a toy drive and awards for participants. Proceeds and donations from the event will support foster families and children served by the KidsPeace foster care office in Temple.
Organizers also noted that past events have included a special appearance from Santa Claus, who has made the race part of his “summer vacation.”
This year’s sponsors include Wagner’s Heating & Cooling as the Gold Sponsor, Burkhardt Mechanical as the Silver Sponsor, and Diamond Credit Union, Hafer Equipment and Sheetz as Bronze Sponsors.
Founded in 1882, KidsPeace provides residential treatment, educational services, psychiatric care, foster care and community-based programs for children and families. According to the organization, more than 300,000 children have participated in its programs since its founding.
